Two Sonatas • BWV 1031 & BWV 1034 • Johann Sebastian Bach • Flute and Guitar

Sonata No. 2 (BWV 1031) is perhaps the most popular of Bach’s flute sonatas. The last movement in binary form could almost be mistaken as a work by Domenico Scarlatti. It has been altered from its original key of E flat major down to the more “guitar-friendly” key of D major.

TheSonata No. 5 (BWV 1034) is set in four movements, alternating fast and slow tempi. Together they offer a fascinating insight into the composer’s use of the Sonata genre and provide a wealth of inventive music.
